Appliance Repair FAQ — Twin Cities Metro

Common questions about our service.

Do garage refrigerators really freeze in Minnesota winters?

Yes — and it happens every year across the Twin Cities. A refrigerator thermostat controls the compressor to maintain ~37°F inside the unit. When the garage temperature drops below 37°F, the compressor stops running — and the interior drops to the ambient temperature. At -20°F, everything in the refrigerator freezes solid. The solution is a garage kit (available for most refrigerator brands) that fools the thermostat into running the compressor even in extreme cold.

Do you offer same-day appliance repair during Minnesota winters?

Yes — 6 days a week year-round, including during polar vortex events. Refrigerator emergencies receive same-day priority regardless of weather conditions. We don't suspend service during Minnesota winters.

What does the service call fee cover?

The fee covers travel, arrival, and full appliance diagnostic inspection. It is applied toward your repair cost if you proceed. If you decide not to proceed, you owe only the service call fee.

How does Twin Cities hard water affect appliances?

Minneapolis water at 100–150 PPM produces gradual ice maker fill valve scaling over 6–9 years and progressive dishwasher spray arm accumulation over similar timelines. This is slower than Western hard water markets but still produces real failures. We check water chemistry on every relevant call and recommend inline filtration where it meaningfully extends component life.

My dryer stopped working in winter. Could the vent be frozen?

Yes — this is a common Minnesota appliance call. Dryer vent flaps accumulate moisture-laden lint during the wet fall season. When temperatures drop sharply, this moisture freezes and can seal the flap shut. The dryer overheats, the thermal safety fuse blows, and the dryer stops. We check vent flap condition and icing on every winter dryer not-heating call.

Should I repair or replace my appliance?

If repair cost is under 50%% of a comparable new appliance's price and the unit is under 8–10 years old, repair usually makes more financial sense. The Twin Cities' older housing stock means we regularly encounter appliances at or past this threshold. We give direct guidance on every call.

Do you service older Minneapolis homes with vintage kitchen configurations?

Yes — older Minneapolis and St. Paul homes with non-standard kitchen configurations, vintage gas line routing, and original electrical panels are a significant part of our service volume. We assess what we find on-site and adapt our approach accordingly.

What brands do you service in the Twin Cities?

LG, Samsung, Whirlpool, GE, KitchenAid, Maytag, Bosch, Miele, Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador, Frigidaire, Electrolux, Kenmore, and all major brands. Eden Prairie and Edina's premium housing concentration means Sub-Zero and Wolf are regular parts of our service volume.
